Daily Photographer Post: Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams
(1902-1984)

An American photographer and environmentalist, Ansel Adams was best known for his black-and-white images of the American West, especially Yosemite National Park. Before devoting his life to nature photography, Adams sought a career as a concert pianist. His love for, and experience with, music, however, profoundly affected his visual artistry, ultimately making him a better photographer. he contracted for his first portfolio in 1927, and continued his photographic career into the 1970's. Over the years, he worked closely with photographers Imogen Cunningham and Edward Weston; he was also a founding member of Group f/64. In addition to photographic inspiration, his visits to Yosemite also gave Adams a passion for nature and its preservation, which drove him to join the Sierra Club at 17.
